Skin- Chose your soap wisely, because most soaps can dry the skin out. Try using a moisturizing cleanser that has petrolatum or glycerin. Hot water dries out the skin by stripping it's natural oils, you want to moisturize immediately after showering to retain moisture. Wear appropriate clothing for the temperature outside. People with eczema prone skin should avoid direct contact with wool, which can be irritating to their skin.
Your Face- Using cream based facial cleansers are great for the face. Avoid using toners and astringents or use them sparingly since most contain skin-drying alcohol. Try using a moisturizing makeup during the day and apply a richer moisturizer at night before bed.
The Lips- Your lips retain less moisture than other parts of your body, which makes it dry out more quickly. Avoid licking your lips, because the wind outside will remove the moisture quickly if they are wet. Use a lip protector like lipstick, because of it's natural moisturizing ingredients can act like balms and prevent your lips from chapping.Stay away from certain lipsticks that can dry out your lips. Avoid any kind of lip products that contain phenol, a kind of ingredient that cause dryness. By using a lip balm you will be able to seal in moisture and get extra hydrated lips. Castor seed oil, shea butter, sunflower sees oil, or coconut oil can also be used to nourish cracked lips.
The Hands- Because we wash our hands frequently, we drain all the moisture. Avoid using excessively hot water in order to retain more moisture, and apply hand cream after every washing to prevent cracking and chapping. Put on a good moisturizer, and your favorite winter gloves, before heading outside. Doing this will keep your hands smooth as a babies bottom.
The Feet- Dry crack feet can be very painful, so before going to bed, put some vaseline, and wrap your feet in plastic wrap. Put on a pair of sock until morning, doing this once a week your feet will be spring ready ;-)
